Duty in the eyes of the world

Ireland - the Good Friday Agreement is an international peace treaty registered with the United Nations (Apr 1998). Its ratification required Republic of Ireland to change its constitution. Withdrawing from shared EU membership removes a pillar on which ratified peace is based. Closing the border will wreck the interchange of people, goods, activities across the open border.

Canada - Jul 2016 Former High Commissioner issued a scathing open statement.
"Seeking a simplistic binary yes/no answer to complex questions, [referenda] succumb to emotion and run amok. Their destructive aftermath lasts for generations."

Japan - Sep 2016 the Japanese Government issued an open statement to the UK and EU.
It lists a set of Requests Directed at the UK and the EU. These requests are not compatible with the Hard Brexit approach the Prime Minister is now taking.

On page 3 the Japanese Government states: "In light of the fact that a number of Japanese businesses, invited by the Government in some cases, have invested actively to the UK, which was seen to be a gateway to Europe, and have established value-chains across Europe, we strongly request that the UK will consider this fact seriously and respond in a responsible manner to minimise any harmful effects on these businesses."
